The documentary project “Travelling ( in) to Fluxus …” was conceived and directed by Irene Di Maggio, in collaboration with Mudima Foundation of Milan. The art critic Gianluca Ranzi is the curator of the interviews. The idea was conceived in order to retrace a journey undertaken in 1971 by Viviana Succi and Gino Di Maggio, who, driven by a human and artistic curiosity, decided to meet the Fluxus artists in their studies and houses, in Europe and abroad.
After more than forty years Irene Di Maggio decided to redo the same journey, starting to reach these extraordinary artists in the places where they live and work, to collect the evidences of their past and present work, and their Fluxus lives. On one hand, the attempt is to pay tribute to this important art movement of the twentieth century and its protagonists, trying to catch and capture the flavours and colours of the artistic life of these people, which has always been connected to everyday life. On the other hand the direct voices of the artists give a clear idea of what Fluxus actually was, and how it has influenced the history of the last fifty years. “Travelling in(to) Fluxus” is a work of investigation in which the interviews are intertwined to a work of documentation and editing of stock footage and video photography.
The documentary sees the participation of artists such as Eric Andersen, Philip Corner, Willem de Ridder, Geoffrey Hendricks, Milan Kníák, Alison Knowles, Shigeko Kubota, Larry Miller, Yoko Ono, Ben Patterson, Sara Seagull, Carolee Schneemann, Daniel Spoerri, Ben Vautier and Gino Di Maggio.
Il progetto del documentario “Travelling (in)to Fluxus… “ è stato ideato e diretto da Irene Di Maggio, in collaborazione con la Fondazione Mudima di Milano, e vede come curatore e conduttore delle interviste il critico Gianluca Ranzi.L’idea nasce dal desiderio di ripercorrere un viaggio intrapreso nel 1971 da Viviana Succi e Gino Di Maggio, i quali, spinti da una curiosità umana ed artistica, decisero di incontrare gli artisti del gruppo Fluxus nei loro studi e nelle loro abitazioni, in Europa e non solo.
A distanza di più di quarant’anni si é deciso di fare lo stesso, partire per raggiungere questi straordinari artisti nei luoghi dove vivono e lavorano, per raccogliere le testimonianze del loro lavoro, passato e contemporaneo, e delle loro vite fluxus.Da una parte il tentativo é quello di rendere omaggio a questo importante movimento artistico del XX secolo e ai suoi protagonisti, cercando di cogliere e catturare i sapori e i colori della vita artistica di queste persone, da sempre intrecciata alla vita quotidiana.Dall’altra, attraverso le voci dirette degli artisti, si evince che cosa sia stato realmente Fluxus, e come abbia influito nella storia dell’arte degli ultimi cinquant’anni.Si tratta di un lavoro di inchiesta nel quale le interviste agli artisti si intrecciano ad un lavoro di documentazione e montaggio di materiale di repertorio video e fotografico.
